Every time you decide to be willing to change or help others is a good day. Be grateful for the opportunity to be helpful. Instead of being bitter about only having so much money in your bank account, be grateful you actually have money in an account.

  • Accept Failures – There will be times when you, or others around you, fail. You can be prepared for this by having a backup plan. You should accept that everyone will fail at some point in their lives, as well as learn that rejection and disappointment are only temporary.

  • Travel – Exploring other cultures and seeing different areas of the world will help you put your life and goals into perspective.

  • Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Be like Bob Marley and choose happiness. Don’t let the negatives thoughts and experiences drag you down a road of pettiness and bitterness. Every moment in your life you choose how to react and behave.

  • Give Forgiveness – Holding grudges keeps you from focusing on what is truly important. Remember, everyone fails; don’t hold on to other people’s failures. After all, you wouldn’t want others to hold on to yours. Don’t let bitterness harbor itself with in you.

This can also help guard against rising costs for water. Water providers will raise the cost of water when demand is higher than the supply. By saving water, you can help keep the supply plentiful, and keep the price of water low.

Here are a few ways you can save water around your house:

  • Turn the faucet off while brushing your teeth. No one needs the water running while they are brushing their teeth. This can save 70 gallons of water a month.

  • Fix that leaky faucet. It may be a small drip here and there, but a faucet that drips 5 times a minute can waste over 200 gallons of water a year.

  • Take shorter showers. Just shaving one minute off of your shower time can help save 75 gallons a month.

  • Water the yard at optimal times. The best times to water your yard are at dusk and dawn. This is when the sun is at its weakest, which will reduce the amount of water that evaporates away.

  • Use native plants in your yard. Native plants will be accustomed to environment where you live, which can greatly reduce the cost of watering.

  • Check you sprinkler system. Broken sprinkler heads and valves can waste several gallons of water a month.

When Social Media Pranks Turn Into Crimes

Do not be surprised if you post incriminating content on your social media and then a few days later, the police come knocking at your door. Social media is no longer just about exchanging memories and connecting with friends. It is now also about business, politics, and even fighting crime. If something suspicious pops up on social media, you can bet that it will go viral and the social media company and the police will get involved.

Southern Tennessee police are investigating a teenager who can be seen on videos uploaded to social media, going on a rampage and committing various pranks that eventually cross the line into criminal acts. The video shows the teenager entering a Popeye’s kitchen, grabbing several pieces of chicken, then walking out. Other videos show the teenager stealing pizza from a delivery man, stealing a bowling pin from a bowling alley, and making messes in a 7-Eleven and a liquor store.

The police are investigating all of these incidents and possibly others. While it is unlikely the boy will be taken to court as an adult, he will certainly face consequences as a minor. This could include community service, fines, and possibly attending programs or classes in an attempt to settle this behavior.

Rebellious and punk are words commonly associated with teenage years, but the rise of social media has certainly fueled the behavior. People see others doing similar things all the time, and posting it on social media to gain likes and comments. It is like instant fame and attention. They believe they can and should do the same because it is what they want, but seldom do they think about the damages and consequences of their actions. Let alone the consequences of bragging about their actions on social media. Social media can make it worse because at that point, more people are talking and gossiping.

Everyone, not just teenagers, needs to be cautious of what they post on social media.

If what they post is later used against them, they must ready to deal with the consequences.

It is no surprise that Tennesseens spend a lot of time behind the wheels. This means we spend a lot of time on the road, which makes it very likely that we’ve encountered other drivers who are less than great.

Every once in a while, we will come across a driver going far below the speed limit for that stretch of road. If luck is on your side, the driver will be in the right lane, leaving the left lane open to pass him or her. However, this is usually not the case. Often times, the slow driver is in the left lane, which is meant for faster traffic, or is in the only lane. This leads to other drivers trying to pass.

If done improperly, this can lead to serious accidents, especially in the case of 2-lane highways. In the case of 2-lane roads, passing is tricky.

A driver may only pass another vehicle if there is a passing lane, or the yellow line separating the 2 lanes is dotted on the side of the car wishing to pass.

If the yellow is solid on your side of the road, you cannot cross that line. It is also illegal to pass a car when visibility is restricted due to curves or hills.

On freeways and other multi-lane roads, passing gets easier. In Tennessee, as with most other states, slower traffic is supposed to stay in the furthest right lane, while faster traffic uses the left lanes. If a driver is being passed by multiple vehicles, he or she should consider moving to the furthest right lane, if not already there. Doing this can help make other driver’s days easier and safer.

Why Modern Generation Is Losing The True Meaning Of LOVE

The true meaning of love has vanished in today’s society, by having virtual lives on the social media.

Shakespeare wrote that “love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind”, but what if we as a generation are focusing too much on looking with the eyes, rather than our minds?

We live in the era of virtual lives. We throw ourselves into taking the perfect Instagram pic, articulating the perfect Facebook status, and coming up with the perfect Tweet. Our online personas are exactly how we want them to be because that is how we want people to see us, but we as humans are inherently imperfect.

There is a growing problem among our generation: we are confusing the people we see online with the people we meet in real life, and in turn, we make little effort to develop a relationship with the person they truly are.

No one can live up to the image they portray on social media, we set ourselves impossibly high boundaries by basing our standards on the actors and models that we see all over television and social media, and as a result, we can never live up to the alter ego we portray online.

Gone are the days of dating, love letters, and meaningful gestures; instead they are replaced with a like, a poke, and if you’re feeling daring you may even ‘pop up’ and this has affected our relationships in so many ways.

The desperation to portray a perfect life on social media has started to include our relationships, which we also try to portray as perfect, and this puts undue pressure on the relationships we have.

Relationships are naturally imperfect

We make mistakes and we learn from them, we do better the next time, but when we put pressure on our relationships by plastering them all over social media, we are forcing ourselves into a kind of relationship we aren’t ready for. This includes saying the L word before you’re ready for it and spending all of your time together taking ‘cute photos’.

We no longer make time to talk and spend quality time together, and it threatens to deteriorate our relationships altogether.

So how do we fix it? How can we find again the true meaning of love?

There is an ever so simple remedy to this problem, and it’s simply to make time for each other, talk to each other, and learn to love each other with your minds.

Learn to love the mind of your partner and love them completely; don’t feel the need to put it all on social media.

Your relationship belongs to you; it is down to you to make it work, so make an effort to really and truly fall in love with your partner.

Finally, learn how to walk away from work without bringing the stress into other areas of your life.

American Psychology Association also suggests deep breathing exercises, meditation, and physical activities to relieve some of the stress.

They say that working on disconnecting from work by not thinking or talking about it can be helpful as well. Work can be stressful, but if you learn how to manage it, work might turn out to be a more fun than you thought.

One of the many benefits of living in Tennessee is that you’re right by the coast. In Tennessee, you can go ski in the mountains, go hiking in the pines, drive through the desert, and surf on the coast all in one day. Some might assume the best time to go to the coast is in the summer. That might be true if all you want to do is lay out in the sun. However, if you’re a surfer, you’ll find the best time to go catch some waves is in the winter.

That is if you want bigger swells. According to Surfline, the perks of surfing in the winter include: less crowds and a bigger swell. The winter swell usually occurs in November to February. Even though you can surf year round, winter has a few perks.

Fewer people in the water will allow you to focus on performing tricks. You won’t have to worry about accidentally running someone over with your surfboard. This also reduces the stress of unintentionally going into another’s surf line.

Larger swells means it’s perfect to attempt some tricks. Typically, in the summer months, you will get swells of 1-2 ft. In the winter months, you will get swells of 2 ft. and higher according to Surfing Waves, a surf report website. Since the swell is larger than normal, the winter season is perfect time for sports.

Even through the winter months are prime time to surf, it is also very cold. The water temperatures drop in the winter and so wet suits are highly recommended to stay warm. Surf socks or booties are also suggested to help you stay focused on the surf and not the cold. Just because the colder weather rolled in, doesn’t mean you have to give up surfing.

There are dozens of words within the English language that are misused regularly. This is not a surprising fact. With so many words within our language, everyone will misuse a word from time to time. All a person can do is learn from the mistake, and try not to repeat it.

In most instances of misused words, the reason is that the words is very similar to another word. Some examples of this include:

  • ACCEPT & EXCEPT:
    Accept means to receive, as in a person can accept an award.
    Except means excluding something, such as a person will do everything, except that.

  • SIGHT & SITE:
    Sight is a person’s ability to see. For example, “Get out of my sight.”
    Site is a location, such as a website or “Stay out of that construction site.”

  • THAN & THEN:
    Than is used to make comparisons. For example, “That house is bigger than our house.”
    Then is used when talking about time. For example, “First we will do this, then we will do that.”

  • THERE, THEIR & THEY’RE:
    There is used when talking about a place. For example, “He rode his bike over there.”
    Their is a possessive pronoun, which means it shows that a person owns something. For example, “That bike is theirs.”
    They’re is a contraction of they and are. For example, “They’re on their bikes right now.”

  • TO, TOO & TWO:
    To is a preposition and is usually the one that people want to use.
    Too is an adverb that usually means also or in addition. An example would be, “You’re in trouble too.”
    Two, simply means the number 2.

  • YOUR & YOU’RE:
    Your is another possessive pronoun. For example, “This is your seat.”
    You’re is a contraction of you and are. For example, “You’re going to sit over there.”

With these words, it is easy to see why they get mixed up and misused. However, there are some words out there that are not similar to other words, and yet they are still misused. Some examples include:

  • ALRIGHT:
    Alright is not a word. What people mean is all right.

  • DISINTERESTED:
    A person who is disinterested is a person who is not biased, not a person who is uninterested in the situation.

  • FLOUNDER:
    Flounder means to flop around, like a fish out of water. It does not mean to sink to the bottom.

  • IRREGARDLESS:
    Irregardless is not a word. What people mean to use is regardless.

  • LITERALLY:
    Literally means actually, not figuratively. Basically, if something literally happened, it actually happened.

This is just a small sample of words that are often misused within the English language. There are hundreds of words out there that are misused. Some of them are misused so frequently by some people that other people believe that they are being used correctly when in fact, they are not. Luckily, everyone misuses words from time to time, so it is nothing to be embarrassed about.
